Controversy over Tendulkar's 'last rites act' in ad
A poorly conceived advertisement featuring Indian cricketers, has triggered a controversy, with complaints being sent to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag and Mahendra Singh Dhoni can be seen in the video advertisement for team sponsor Sahara , who are entering the retail market with ‘completely adulteration-free’ shops.
The ad shows Sachin Tendulkar conducting the last rites for a family seated at a dining table, Yuvraj Singh digging a grave, Virat Kohli pushing a wheelchair, and Virender Sehwag replacing a normal crib with a medical one.
With the advertisement drawing flak, Tendulkar, now an MP, feels that it should be withdrawn.
To the audience, the advertisement seems to suggest that the buying from a place other than the Sahara shop, would mean inviting disease and death.
