SLPL good preparation for WC T20: Malinga
Sri Lankan pace bowler Lasith Malinga felt that the Sri Lankan T20 League has been good practice leading in to the T20 World Cup and has said , "SLPL is a good preparation for the Twenty20 World Cup.
All the Sri Lankan players know the conditions very well and we have a chance to win the Twenty20 World Cup" He also felt that Sri Lanka would now have a slight edge over the countries that didn't feature in the league, "It is an advantage for us and we are ready for the Twenty20 World Cup."
Talking about his team's inability to last long enough in the tournament, Malinga said that his players lacked experience, "It's the first year of SLPL and the local players are yet to adjust to T20 leagues. They don't know how to play T20 cricket. They will learn and get better in future. It's a good thing for Sri Lanka."
Malinga also admitted that his performance was not up to the mark, "Definitely, my performance was not up to the mark. But I am hoping that I will do well in the Twenty20 World Cup."
Mahela Jayawardene too said that the SLPL could be helpful, however, he was apprehensive about his players falling prey to injuries, "In a way it was a good preparation but I was a bit worried that injuries might happen to the players just so near the Twenty20 World Cup.
We had some injuries to players but fortunately they will be OK for the T20 World Cup. In all, there were more positives from the SLPL than the negatives."
