IPL has reduced FICA to an advisory role: May

The chief executive of the Federation of International Cricketers' Association (FICA), Tim May has stated that that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has sidelined the FICA with respect to player contracts and salaries.

Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore, two of the most high profile teams in the IPL have defaulted the payment of salaries to most of its roster of players. May said that the above two teams have not yet replied to queries from the FICA regarding the salaries that they owe to the players.

"We try to become directly involved but we never receive any responses from the Indian Premier League, which is frustrating for all," May said.

FICA has asked the players to resolve the matter with their home board's as it has been rendered powerless in the matter.

"The reality of the situation is we're sitting in the background advising the players on these particular issues.

If they can't get addressed, we'll look into the matter in legal terms, how [we can] pursue these monies."

May has claimed that the teams have not even responded to the queries of the national board.

Some of the players of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) including skipper, Daniel Vettori are yet to receive even the first installment of their salaries while Deccan Chargers also owe the salaries to their players.

Under every IPL contract, the players are due to receive 15% of their salaries before April 1, 50% of the remaining amount at the end of the tournament, 20% after the Champions League T20 and the remaining 15% before December 1.

RCB owners, UB group are currently reeling under financial difficulties and there were rumors that Dr. Mallya, the owner of UB group who own RCB might even sell the team.
