Yuvraj Singh to receive Arjuna Award

New Delhi: Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh who is preparing to stage a comeback to competitive cricket, has been nominated for the Arjuna Award. The left-handed batsman is amongst 25 sportspersons whose names have been shortlisted by the Arjuna Awards and Khel Ratna Committee headed by Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
The 30-year old cricketer who recovered from a rare form of cancer, tweeted that he was honoured to get the Arjuna Award. Yuvraj is currently training at the National Cricket Academy, in Bangalore. His name was announced in the squad for the T20 World Cup, as well as the two T20 matches against New Zealand.
Ravi Shastri was one amongst the many sportspersons on the 15-member committee that decided on the awards list for India’s most prestigious sports awards. The final list of the winners is expected to be released by the Sports Ministry in a few days.
In July this year, the BCCI had nominated Rahul Dravid for the Khel Ratna, and Yuvraj Singh for the Arjuna Award. Fast bowler Zaheer Khan had won the award in 2011, while batsman Gautam Gambhir picked it up in 2009.
